UnrealED base tutorial

An Unreal Tournament map is builded with "Bruses" and "Actors" (lights, playerstart-positions, etc.).
The "Brush" is a shaped box, with 4 edges in general, but you can add how many edges you want.
Ok, maybe this information won't make you happy enough ? ; )

Well since this is a first-time tutorial, it's gonna be basic, and don't expect the following map to be
very cool, but you will learn fast, i did ; )

Ok before opening UnrealEd, make sure you have the latest version of Unreal Tournament (436),
You can check this by opening Unreal Tournament, and look in the right upper corner.
If you don't have 436, Get it at: http://www.unrealtournament.com

Open up UnrealEd (Yes it does take a lot of time, I know),
Then right click the "Cube" button seen in the pic to the right.
Now you see a lot of numbers, "Height", "Width" and "Breadth"
These 3 values are exactly what they seem to be! ; )

Change Height to 768, Width to 1024 and Breadth to 1024.
Then click "Build", Now a big transculent box with red edges should
have appeared.
Cube builder
Texture Browser Now since we want textures in that box and not just a black space,
click the "Texture Browser" button. Open the texture packs "UTtech1"
and "UTtech2". Choose a texture of your choice, click it,
Click in the 3D view. and then press Ctrl+S

An Example of a brush

Now something like this should have appeared, depending on your texture choice.
Congratulations! You have made your first UnrealEd brush! ; )
Since this isn't the coolest map ever, Let's add some cool stuff to it!
-
Right click the "Cylinder" button, Change "Height" to 786,
"OuterRadius" to 128 and "InnerRadius" to 96. Click "Build".
Change texture to something like "RCLFT4" in "UTtech2", Move around
the pillar to the middle of the box, Do this by click on the pillar and holding down
CTRL and drag it around. When it is where you wan't it. Press CTRL+A
Now you have pretty fat pillar in the middle of the room!
Cylinder button

Since life would be pretty dark without light, We need to add some light "Actors" to the map
Do this by right clicking in the 3D view and choosing "Add Light Here".
Add some light actors here and there (in the box, they won't do anything outside it).

Build Lightning button Then press the "Build Lightning" button, now you can see how
the map will look in UnrealTournament! If there are to much dark, move around or add some more Light "Actors"
and Re-Build Lightning until your happy! ; )

Now you have a room, with a pillar, and lightning, Now you need 2 more things for a complete
playable map! 1. Playerstarts, 2. Items (Weapons, Ammo, Health, etc. )

The playerstarts, Open the "Actor Class Browser" window. Goto: Actor.NavigationPoint.Playerstart.
Right click in the 3D view, on the ground, and click "Add Playerstart Here". Do this in 2 or more
places (so you can play against bots)

The Items, Again open the "Actor Class Browser" and goto: Actor.Inventory.Weapon.TournamentWeapon.
Here There's a list of all the Unreal Tournament weapons, Add 1 or more of them in the map.

The map in UED

Now there's only ONE more step to have a fully playable map! Click the "Build All" button.
Wait until it's done.... Save As: DM-YOURNAMEHERE ; P (It has to be DM- in the beginning, since
this is a Deathmatch map.

Open UnrealTournament and run your new and superb map!
(not with more than 3 bots, otherwise it will be kinda hectic ; ) Just look !:

Yep, Hectic

Thank's and Goodnight people!
